Project Overview
Location: Vietnam
Equipment: VSI8518 Vertical Shaft Impact Crusher
Raw Material: Granite
Production Capacity: 220 t/h
Application: Manufactured Sand Production
A granite processing project in Vietnam required a reliable sand-making solution for producing high-quality manufactured sand from crushed granite. The raw material was relatively hard, and the customer needed a stable output of around 220 t/h while keeping energy consumption and operating costs under control.
Based on the available site conditions, the characteristics of the granite and the required production rate, an VSI8518 Vertical Shaft Impact Crusher was selected as the sand-making equipment. The machine was configured for Rock on Rock & Center Feeding, providing a rated capacity of 200–260 t/h and allowing the plant to operate at approximately 220 t/h under the customer's working conditions.

Customer Requirement
The customer was mainly concerned with three aspects: production capacity, finished-product quality and operating cost.
The granite had already undergone primary and secondary crushing before entering the VSI crusher. To match the VSI8518's recommended operating range for hard materials, the feed size was controlled to ≤35 mm.
The customer also needed flexibility in finished-product grading, as the sand and fine aggregate would be used for different local construction applications. The crushing and screening arrangement therefore allowed the final material to be screened and classified according to the required size ranges.
Equipment Selection
Based on the customer's required capacity, granite hardness and feed size, our technical team recommended the VSI8518 for the project.

Solution for Granite Sand Production
The VSI8518 was positioned as the shaping and sand-making stage after the granite had been reduced to a suitable feed size.
With the Rock on Rock crushing principle, the material is accelerated by the high-speed rotor and impacted against the material layer formed inside the crushing chamber. This helps reduce direct contact between the material and some internal wear parts while providing effective crushing and shaping of the granite.
For this project, the feeding and operating conditions were selected according to the hardness and feed size of the granite rather than simply choosing a larger crusher based on nominal capacity. This helped keep the equipment size, installed power and operating cost within a practical range for the customer's target output.
The downstream screening system could separate the crushed material into different fractions, allowing the customer to adjust the product combination according to actual demand.
The VSI8518 was configured for Rock on Rock & Center Feeding to process the granite efficiently at the required production rate. The machine produces a natural mixed discharge in the 0–10 mm range, forming a continuously graded material containing stone powder, fine sand, medium sand, coarse sand, and a small proportion of fine aggregate particles. This mixed output can then be screened and classified according to the customer's specific requirements, allowing different finished-product sizes to be produced from the same processing stage.
Results After Operation
After being put into operation, the VSI8518 achieved a production rate of approximately 220 t/h under the project's working conditions.
The produced material showed a more suitable particle shape for manufactured sand and fine aggregate applications. By adjusting the screening and grading arrangement, different finished-product size combinations could be obtained to meet changing requirements.
According to the customer's operating experience, the new sand-making process reduced energy consumption by approximately 50%–60% compared with the previous sand-making equipment. The combination of high throughput, flexible product grading and relatively low operating cost made the VSI8518 a suitable choice for the granite processing application.
